Meet the Owners
The Venue at Black Grove Ranch is family-owned by Walter & Jean Shealy, who envisioned creating a space where people could celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. Inspired by the ranch’s heritage and the natural beauty of the land, they designed the venue to reflect both Southern hospitality and elegant charm. Their mission is simple: to make every guest feel welcomed, cared for, and celebrated.
Ranch-To-Table
At Black Grove Ranch, we take pride in raising 100% Registered Black Angus cattle on over 400 acres of rolling pasture in Newberry, South Carolina. For more than 60 years, our family has been committed to sustainable ranching practices, earning recognition from the American Angus Association as one of only three Historic Angus Herds in South Carolina and the Newberry Soil & Water Conservation District for environmental stewardship.​
Our cattle graze naturally on local, seasonal grasses in a low-stress environment—never with antibiotics, added hormones, or steroids. Calves from our herd are carefully selected, humanely raised, and typically ready for market at around 16 months of age
Their superior Angus marbling ensures the rich flavor and tenderness we proudly feed our own family.​This is beef you can trust—raised with care, respect for the land, and a dedication to quality that has defined Black Grove for generations.
Our Roots in Service
The Venue at Black Grove is deeply tied to the legacy of Boys Farm in Newberry, SC, a nonprofit founded by Walter Shealy’s parents to provide a safe, faith-centered home for boys in need. Today, Walter continues that mission of care and community — leading Boys Farm, running his family’s ranch, and opening The Venue at Black Grove to bring people together in meaningful ways. His life’s work reflects a commitment to faith, family, and building a stronger community.
